6th District Anti-Crime Walk in the Milan neighborhood

The Sixth District will conduct an anti-crime walk in the Milan neighborhood, which is a new addition to the Sixth District that was aquired when we restructured our district boundries. The walk will be this Thursday, 1/26/12, at 5:00pm. Members of our new community are encouraged to come meet and walk with the officers who are now working in your neighborhood. NORDC Announcements

Soccer is coming to the Channel! NORDC will have soccer for kids ages 5 to 8 this Spring. You can register at Lyons Center on Thursday, March 15th from 6 to 7 PM with Coach Wayne. Practices will begin the following week and run from 6 to 7:30 PM every Tuesday and Thursday. If you can’t make it the 15th you can sign up at any practice also. Soraparu Replanting

The Irish Channel had another park improvement day, in large part due to the efforts of YLC (Young Leadership Council) and some donated tree.  Previous renovations, NORD (2003), Kaboom (2008) left the park with great playground equipment.  Now we have added dozens of Crepe Myrtles, a few Japanese Magnolias , and 2 Sycamores which will grow into a beautiful canopy for the park.  A few benches, basket ball court striping, and other additions were also complete by the wonderful volunteers.  Thanks YLC...

For six years I’ve called the Irish Channel my home. My interest in the revitalization of the neighborhood came early in my residency. With unsupervised young people roaming the streets and a desire to meet my neighbors and make the neighborhood more attractive for families, I joined the Irish Channel Neighborhood Association (ICNA) and served on its board for three years.
